Imiquimod (Aldara) Cream 5%

This is a cream that can be used for the treatment of superficial BCC. It needs to be applied 5x / week for 6 weeks. The response is assessed 12 weeks after completing treatment.

It can also be used for actinic kerasotes. Apply 3x / week for 4 weeks. The response is assessed 4 weeks later. Then a 2nd course can be repeated if necessary.

It can cause a lot of inflammation and this reaction can look unsightly. Sometimes hypopigmentation and pain can occur. It has also been used for warts and molluscum contagiosum.

See Varma S. Therapeutic uses for topically applied Imiquimod. Dermatology In Practice, Volume 13, Number 4.
